Chokei-ji, Toyama.
“The Chokei-ji is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Soto school of Zen Buddhism situated on Mt. Kureha in the suburbs of Toyama City, in Toyama Prefecture. The main object of veneration at the Temple was originally a Daibutsu (Great Buddha Statue) known as the Sakuradani Daibutsu; however, this Statue was removed in 1870 as the result of an order issued by the Toyama Domain, and today only the head remains. Behind the Temple, over 500 stone statues of the Buddha’s disciples stand facing the Tateyama Mountains.”
