Photos of the United States (April 2018)

Images of Miami, the Everglades and the Keys in Florida, United States. Taken in April 2018.

“Miami is a major port city on the Atlantic coast of south Florida in the southeastern United States. It is nicknamed the ‘Capital of Latin America’ and is the largest city with a Cuban-American plurality. The Miami area was inhabited for thousands of years by indigenous Native American tribes. The Tequestas occupied the area for a thousand years before encountering Europeans. An Indian village of hundreds of people dating to 500–600 BC was located at the mouth of the Miami River.

“The Everglades is a natural region of tropical wetlands in the southern portion of Florida, comprising the southern half of a large drainage basin and part of the neotropic ecozone. The Everglades experience a wide range of weather patterns, from frequent flooding in the wet season to drought in the dry season.

“The Florida Keys are a coral cay archipelago located off the southern coast of Florida, forming the southernmost portion of the continental United States. They begin at the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas.”
