Red String Monument “Two Persons”, Aomori

Red String Monument “Two Persons”, Aomori.

“Unassuming monument that commemorates the 20th anniversary of the twin cities of Aomori and Hakodate. It is based on the story of Osamu Dazai, in his novel ‘Shihide’, wherein he and his brother Reiji discussed the red silk that bound them to the woman of their destiny as they watched the ferry depart Aomori port. The monument is by sculptor Yoshiro Mineta, and a similar sculpture is located in Hakodate. Maybe it’s in the translation, but this monument is also referred to as Red Thread Monument and Red Silk Monument.”
