Photos of Japan (November 2025)

Images of Iwaki, Mount Akagi, Aomori and Hirosaki. November 2025.

“Iwaki is located at the southeastern end of Tōhoku region and borders on Ibaraki Prefecture. The city occupies around 8.9 percent of the total area of Fukushima Prefecture. The eastern part of the city is made up of 60 kilometres (37 miles) of coastline which faces the Pacific Ocean, and the western part goes through the Abukuma highlands and joins up with the central part of Fukushima Prefecture.

“Mount Akagi (‘Red Castle’) is a stratovolcano in Gunma Prefecture. Mount Akagi is an object of worship in this region. On Ōno Lake, there is Akagi Shrine.

“Aomori (‘Blue Forest’) is the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, in the Tōhoku region. Aomori could possibly be translated as ‘green forest’. The name is generally considered to refer to a small forest on a hill which existed near the town. This forest was often used by fishermen as a landmark. A different theory suggests the name might have been derived from the Ainu language.

“Hirosaki is a city located in western Aomori Prefecture. Hirosaki developed as a castle town for the 100,000 koku Hirosaki Domain ruled by the Tsugaru clan. The city is currently a regional commercial centre, and the largest producer of apples in Japan.”
